The Volunteer & Information Center (VIC) of Montgomery, Alabama requests a partnership with the Corporation for National & Community Service's AmeriCorps VISTA program to serve Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, Bullock, Lowndes, Macon and Pike Counties. VISTA members will increase the capacity and ability of VIC and project lead partner agencies to develop and implement eligible activities related to the Homelessness Prevention Fund (HPF) on a multi-county basis in Central Alabama and build organizational capacity of VIC, the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (MACH) and Family Promise of Montgomery to effectively and efficiently address and meet the needs of all low-income individuals, the homeless or those at risk of homelessness.
The goal of this project will be to identify and assist low-income and homeless households through implementation and expansion of a coordinated and user-friendly system that enhances easier access to information, resources and services designed to address housing stabilization and empower low income individuals and the homeless to overcome poverty, illiteracy and homelessness due to the recent economic downturn.
VISTA members will increase our proposed outreach and project capacity in achieving housing stabilization and preventing homelessness for at-risk populations. VISTA members will participate in identifying and expanding information regarding available resources and services throughout our regional service area. Identifying appropriate service providers, both public and private, and faith based community resources are critical to linking those in need to appropriate resources and assisting and empowering this vulnerable population. In addition, VISTA members will lead efforts to increase MACH membership, and volunteer and donor databases among the partner organizations to address the needs of the target population.
