VISTA Member Position Description

Expanding the Network

Organization Description

Family Promise of Montgomery is an affiliate of Family Promise, a national network serving homeless families with children in 146 communities in 39 states. Our Interfaith Hospitality Network of area churches supports homeless families with shelter and meals until they can return to stability.

Goal

The Goal of this VISTA position is to increase the organizational capacity of Family Promise of Montgomery by expanding the network of committed organizations and by improving our communications from our agency to the community at large.

Required Qualifications

·        Commitment of one year of service

·        Able to communicate effectively (written & oral)

·        Must be a self starter and able to work independently as well as in groups

·        Be proficient in Word, Publisher, Excel and have a comfort level in learning new computer applications

·        Knowledge and some experience managing websites and newsletters

·        Bachelor’s degree preferred

Job Description

·        Develop a strategy to introduce the Family Promise model to new faith based organizations and to secure new partnerships in our community.

·        Review Family Promise’s website, make suggestions of how to better communicate through the website to our target audiences and partners, and to implement those suggestions.

·        Assist with research, writing and other projects in conjunction with marketing and public relations for Family Promise.

·        Maintain volunteer and donor database as well as developing a training module for primary coordinators in our partner organizations to utilize the online database for each of their volunteers.

·        Other duties may be assigned to assist staff with office project, grants or fundraising projects.

Compensation

AmeriCorps VISTA living allowance (approximately $900/month), health benefits, child care assistance, student loan forbearance or deferment , a $1200 end of service stipend or $4,725 educational award.

This one year AmeriCorps VISTA position is offered in conjunction with the Volunteer and Information Center’s “Building a Better Future for the River Region VISTA Project”.
